Chancellor Vitter sent Hottytoddy.com his personal statement from his Twitter account, which is an official account for Ole Miss.

Chancellor Vitter made this statement from his Twitter account, which is an official account for Ole Miss.

Future Ole Miss Chancellor, Jeffery Vitter, sent out a Tweet on Twitter yesterday in support of Christmas on campus.

“Please be reassured that we’ll continue to honor our #OleMiss Christmas traditions,” Vitter wrote.

The tweet comes after a week of reports about a controversial name change of a student-led event on campus. The annual Christmas event, “A Grand Ole Christmas”, was renamed to “Hotty Toddy Holidays” this year by the Ole Miss Student Activities Association.

The Ole Miss SAA co-director of special events, who Hottytoddy.com has not named, received national criticism after he told Newswatch 99, a campus news station, that the event “connoted too much Christianity on campus.”

Thousands of Ole Miss fans, alumni and others connected to the university has mixed reactions about the actions of the Ole Miss SAA and the student’s comments on Christianity.

Vitter’s support comes before he takes his official role of chancellor in 2016. After a week of negative national attention, his comment gives relief to many concerned about the future of Ole Miss.

“It’s great to see our new chancellor stepping forward to show his leadership,” Dr. Ed Meek, former assistant vice chancellor for public relations for Ole Miss and CEO of hottytoddy.com said. “We wish him many Hotty Toddy years ahead.”

Vitter, a computer scientist and academic leader, is expected to step on campus as the official University of Mississippi Chancellor in January.

Why are we letting a small majority of people especially out of state students dictate what goes on, on our campus. If you do not like Ole Miss and our traditions, get the hell out.
