Oxford Crime Report: Monday, December 21
Chris Paten – Armed Robbery
On Saturday, December 19, 2015, Oxford police officers arrested Chris Paten (27 of Oxford). An unknown citizen called the police, reporting that Paten was on Robinson Road. Paten’s arrest came as a result of a call on the Robinson Road last week. The victim said Paten and other men were shooting dice on Robinson Road when Paten got mad, pulled a gun and took his money. The victim signed charges on Paten, then Paten’s bond was set at $75,000.
Oxford police report that Paten was found with narcotics on him, so they called Metro Narcotics to assist. The police also recovered a stolen firearm that was taken from the Lafayette County, thus notifying the Sheriff’s Office.
Major Jeff McCutchen said, “At this time, we do not believe that Paten has any connection with the robberies at Regions Bank.”
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: three welfare concerns, three suspicious activities, two improper parking, two disturbances, a malicious mischief, an ambulance assist, a 911 hang up call, a civil matter, a code violation, a petit larceny and a harassing phone call.
Oxford police investigated nine wrecks, issued 10 traffic citations and made four arrests on the following charges:

Shoplifting and resisting arrest
Speeding and DUI
University police responded to the following incidents: three vehicle stops and a traffic detail on Chucky Mullins Drive.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following call:
Bathroom vent fan shorted out at 9:45 a.m. at 1204 Medical Park Drive
The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2015 Christmas Holiday Travel Enforcement Period on Wednesday, December 23 at 6 p.m. and will conclude Sunday, December 27 at midnight.
During this highly traveled period, Troopers will be conducting multiple safety checkpoints statewide in order to enforce child restraint and seatbelt laws while also removing impaired drivers.
Additional Troopers will be assigned to Interstate and Highway systems in order to combat careless and reckless driving along with speeding and distracted driving issues. MHP investigated 148 crashes during the 2014 Christmas enforcement period with no fatal crashes.
