Jordan Smith was named the 2015 winner of NBC’s “The Voice” on the season finale Dec. 15. A day before receiving his new title, Smith sang the Christmas melody “Mary Did You Know” and topped the charts.
After Smith sang the Christian, Christmas song, his version of it went number one on iTunes. “Mary Did You Know” moved Adele’s new single “Hello” down to the number two spot.
The song was written by Gospel comedian and singer, Mark Lowry, in 1984. Lowry shared the song lyrics with Buddy Greene in 1992 for Greene to ad music to the lyrics. Since then, over 400 artist have recorded the song.
Lowry shared Smith’s performance of the song on his personal Facebook page multiple times.
“The best I’ve EVER heard it,” Lowry said.
Smith has two other songs in the top 10 on iTunes. “Climb Every Mountain” and “God Only Knows” debut at number four and eight on the charts.
