The Oxford High School (OHS) Marine Corps Junior ROTC Rifle Team finished their season in the Orion National Air Rifle League Air Force/Marine Corps JROTC Distinguished Division with a perfect record (8-0) as division champions.
“This is the first time our high school team has won a rifle championship of any kind, which is a huge accomplishment for our students,” said OHS Marine Corps Junior ROTC Senior Marine Instructor Doug Cromwell. “Our Marine Corps Junior ROTC Rifle Team also competes in the Mississippi/Louisiana Rifle League with one more match to shoot in December. If our team is one of the top ten teams in our league, then we will be invited to the league championship in January.”
The OHS Marine Corps Junior ROTC Rifle Team competes annually in the Marine Corps National Rifle Match, and over 150 Marine Corps Junior ROTC programs across the nation compete in this rifle match. Last year, Oxford finished 24th nationwide in the Marine Corps National Rifle Match and earned an invitation to compete in the Navy and Marine Corps Junior ROTC Regional Rifle Match in Anniston, Alabama.
