Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze met with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference in preparation for the final game of the regular season: the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State.

The Rebels enter the week’s practice with a 38-17 victory over LSU, bringing home the Magnolia trophy.

“It was a solid game,” Coach Freeze said.

In the aftermath of the game against the LSU Tigers, sophomores Marquis Haynes and DeMarquis Gates were both recognized as Player of the Week with Haynes as the defensive lineman and Gates as the defensive player.

“I love this week and I love the fact that it is Thanksgiving and each position group on our team has a project to do this week in giving back to this community in some way,” Freeze said. “I love being apart of that seeing our kids do that. We have so much to be thankful for; hopefully, we can help others during this time.”

Freeze is also excited for the Egg Bowl this weekend.

“I am super excited to do that because I know what it means to our fans and State fans,” Freeze said. “It’s a great competition and we will have to play or best when we go to Starkville Saturday night.”

Freeze recognizes Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott as “one of the most tremendous leaders” on the football team. He acknowledges that Mississippi State team will give Ole Miss Rebels a challenge this weekend in Starkville.

“He is a great player, leader and a winner. And (he) will compete at a high level,” Freeze said. “He gives that offense a chance to be really special at times. On the defensive side of the ball, (Mississippi State players) are aggressive and they get after you. They have a very big and strong front and the linebackers play well.”

Freeze said the Ole Miss Rebels will have to prepare extensively for this rivalry game.

“What makes Davis Wade Stadium a very difficult place to play is because any home stadium in the SEC is difficult. (T)he home team will have 90 percent of the crowd,” Freeze said.

C.J. Hampton will be in a green jersey during practice today. His situation will be day-by-day because of a stinger. Freeze is doubtful that Fadol Brown will play in the Egg Bowl due to a stress fracture. Cam Ordway will have to sit out the first half of the Egg Bowl due ejection in the second half against LSU. Denzel Nkemdiche is progressing, yet still under doctors’ supervision.

The football kickoff will be at 6:15 p.m. Saturday night on ESPN 2.
