Sanders Named to SEC Community Service Team
Ole Miss senior defender Samantha Sanders has been named to the 12th annual Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for her outreach efforts in the Ole Miss and Oxford communities.
The SEC sponsors community service teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The community service team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
Sanders has made a difference in the Ole Miss and Oxford communities since arriving on campus four years ago. The senior has participated in several outreach projects such as RebelTHON and Trunk-or-Treat. Sanders works with area youth in local soccer clinics and camps, while also volunteering her time assisting the Special Olympics track and field and basketball teams.
As an exercise science major with an impressive 3.91 GPA, Sanders has started her career path by showing elementary students how to be active as part of the Move Mississippi initiative. The West Allis, Wisconsin native also assisted in providing meals for the poor around the community, volunteering with More than a Meal and the Ole Miss SAAC Adopt-A-Basket programs.
As a team captain for the past three seasons, Sanders has been a leader on and off the field throughout her career. She has played in 66 games over a four-year span, starting in 63 of those contests. Sanders has been a primary figure on the backline, helping the Rebels post 29 shutouts, nearly half of the games she started in.
Sanders and the Rebels travel to Clemson, South Carolina, for the second round of the NCAA Championships Friday. No. 24 Ole Miss will face No. 7 Clemson at 6 p.m. CT from Riggs Field.
