Stop in for Pancakes and a Make-Your-Own Milkshake at Oxford Market Place at the Commons
Jeffrey Hollis and Hunter Plott saw an opportunity and jumped on it. The Oxford businessmen built, own and operate the new Oxford Market Place convenience store and Shell service station located at the entrance to The Commons at Sisk Avenue on Highway 7.
“I think everybody saw the need for a convenience store to match the growth of The Commons. We just jumped in before someone else did,” Hollis said.
Developed by David Blackburn, the Commons is rapidly expanding with new housing units, a movie theatre, bowling alley, senior care health facility and now Oxford Market Place. Also located in the area are Oxford High School, Della Davidson Elementary School, two hotels, the Oxford Convention Center and National Guard armory.
Market Place incorporates 6000 square feet located on an acre and a half of prime real estate. The building includes a liquor store on the west end and deli on the east end.
“We have great food including barbecue, smoked chicken and ribs, a plate lunch menu and the best fountain drinks in town, “ Hollis said, explaining he personally calibrated the fountain drinks with extra syrup.
The store hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday to Saturday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
“We cook a mean breakfast, too, full menu, including pancakes and sausage,” said Hollis.
Hollis and his wife, Sarah, have two boys, Hayes and Sloan. Before getting into the retail business he was a realtor, land appraiser and partner in a group, which owned Cabalas Trophy Properties.
In addition to offering enriched fountain products, Oxford Market Place is the first convenience store to include a self-serve milkshake machine.
