Intern Queen Visits The University of Mississippi
The famously-known “Intern Queen” Lauren Burger was invited by the Ole Miss Career Center to make a speech at the Overby Center while on her Target Tour for Internships.
As employers nowadays start to look for experienced candidates during the recruitment process, internships play a critical role on a potential employee’s resume.
With up to 15 internship experiences during her undergraduate studies at Florida State University, Lauren Burger, Founder and current CEO of internqueen.com, shared her internship stories and valuable information on how to land an ideal internship with Ole Miss students.
“Internships are important in both personal and professional developments, they can change your life,” Lauren said. “You have to be proactive and reach out to the companies you want to work for.”
Lauren also told students not to feel ashamed and defeated when being rejected. “I got rejected for 117 times when I applied for internships…but guess what? I applied 118 times in total and got an offer!”
Rejection is a normal thing many university students face when looking for internships, but “a rejection right now does not mean a rejection in the future, keep track with your professional contacts and follow up with them three times a year, magic will happen,” said Lauren.
The internship speech lasted for an hour, many students stayed afterward to chat with Lauren hoping to get more insights as most of them are starting to look for summer internships in 2016.
