MPB to Provide Special Prize at Oxford Film Fest
The Oxford Film Festival announced today that Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) will provide a special prize of broadcasting the juried award winner in the Mississippi Documentary category for next year’s edition of the film festival (February 17-21, 2016).
The winner will be announced during the Oxford Film Festival Award Ceremony on February 20 at the Lyric Oxford. At a later date, following the presentation of the award, Oxford FF and MPB will determine and announce when and where the film will be broadcast after the festival.
“What I love most about Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s support of the fest through this prize offering is that it gets right to the heart of what we want to see happen here at the Oxford Film Festival” said Melanie Addington, executive director of the festival. “Mississippi Public Broadcasting is helping us maintain the commitment to our Mississippi filmmakers that we are going to do our best to help them keep on creating and to help audiences see their films. It is truly gratifying” “We’re excited to be working with the Oxford Film Festival and supporting documentary filmmaking in Mississippi,” said John Gibson, MPB’s Director of Television. “There are so many talented documentarians across the state and region who sometimes struggle to reach a broader audience.
Through this partnership, MPB will provide a showcase for some of their best work, and also build closer ties with Mississippi’s creative community.” Broadcast on Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) Television is contingent upon and limited to the winning film meeting MPB’s legal, content, and technical guidelines.
The Oxford Film Festival is accepting submissions until November 15. The festival will be held February 17-21, 2016. More information is available at http:// www.oxfordfilmfest.com.
