Vassallo: Ole Miss Climbing Again in Polls
The Ole Miss Rebels not only turned things around on the field Saturday, they are also headed back in the right direction once again in all the polls. The Sagarin Poll which is the most objective poll because of a computerized format has Ole Miss currently at number 10. Here’s how Sagarin evaluates the SEC and Memphis this week:
Alabama, 1;Florida, 9; Ole Miss, 10; Texas A&M, 13; LSU, 16; Georgia, 19; Tennessee, 24, Mississippi State, 30; Arkansas, 38; Auburn, 46; Memphis, 50; Missouri, 54; Kentucky, 59; South Carolina, 63; Vanderbilt, 71.
In the Coaches Poll Ole Miss finds themselves at number 12 and number 13 in the AP. The Rebs are a 9.5 point favorite over Memphis according to Vegas. It’s interesting to note the respect the Rebels still enjoy even after the 28 point loss in Gainesville. One factor influencing this is Florida’s solid road victory Saturday spoiling Missouri’s Homecoming in the process. And Bama keeps rolling as well with major wins over Georgia and Arkansas the past two weeks.
Future opponents of the Rebs are all ranked 30th or lower by Sagarin with the exception of Arkansas (38); Auburn (46); and Memphis (50). The fact that many of these foes are highly regarded the Rebs can control their own destiny from this point forward.
The Crimson Tide has certainly put the Ole Miss “L” clearly behind them and as of now would be a major consideration for the four team playoff. The Alabama-Texas A&M game Saturday along with the LSU-Florida and Ole Miss-Memphis games are all HUGE. Rebel fans need to flock to Memphis to support this team as the magical season continues.
