Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, October 9 – 11

Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 18 disturbances, 11 suspicious activities, 10 welfare concerns, nine alarms, seven improper parking, seven lost properties, five scams, five fire department assists, four malicious mischief, four careless driving, three ambulance assists, three animal complaints, three petit larcenies, two 911 hang up calls, two harassments, two motorist assists, a shoplifting, a littering, a trespassing, a public intoxication and a burglary at 1700 University Avenue.

Oxford police investigated 21 wrecks, issued 137 traffic citations and made __ arrests on the following charges:

(3) DUI
(2) Minor in possession and fake ID
(2) Public intoxication and fake ID
(2) Careless driving and DUI
(2) Minor in possession
(2) Speeding and DUI
(2) Warrants served
Disturbing the peace
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Speeding, ran a red light and DUI
Possession of Schedule IV narcotics
Failure to comply and resisting arrest
No seatbelt and suspended driver’s license
Pubic intoxication, resisting arrest and fake ID
Careless driving, suspende driver’s license and DUI
Minor in possession, fake ID and public intoxication
Disturbing the peace and possession of drug paraphernalia
Speeding, suspended driver’s license, no insurance and DUI
Careless driving, expired tag, suspended driver’s license and DUI

University police responded to the following calls:
Friday, October 9
Three vehicle stops
Traffic detail at Grove
Public drunk at Martin Hall
Vehicle wreck at Women’s Athletics Complex
Possession of drug paraphernalia at Deaton Hall
Suspicious person at Blackburn-McMurray Complex
Saturday, October 10
Three vehicle stops
Public Drunk at Bryant Hall
Suspicious vehicle at Kincannon field lot
Larceny of bicycles at Student Union Drive
Possession of drug paraphernalia at Hefley Hall
A report of simple assault with a fear of bodily harm
Sunday, October 11
Nine vehicle stops
Traffic detail on Student Union Drive

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Friday, October 9
Smoke detector activated at 7:09 a.m. due to burned food at Canterbury Crest
Several different alarm activations at 12:17 p.m. at Kappa Sigma house
Sprinkler system and smoke detector activations at 3:56 p.m. due to a pan of oil catching fire worsened by a resident putting it in the sink and pouring water on it at Campus Creek
Smoke detector malfunction at 4:43 p.m. and 5:12 p.m. at the Lamar Lounge
Water flow alarm at 7:02 p.m. at Campus Creek
Smoke detector activation at 8:50 p.m. by cooking at Townhouse Suites by Marriott
Smoke detector malfunction at 9:55 p.m. on seventh floor at Stockard Hall
Saturday, October 10
Smoke detector malfunction at 11:37 a.m. at Chi Omega house
Gas leak at 11:11 p.m. from an overfilled gas tank and the fire department put oil dry down at Circle K on North Thacker Loop
Sunday, October 11
Gas spill at 10:02 a.m. when a gas delivery driver pulled a filling hose off and spilled around 100 gallons of fuel at Murphy Oil gas station located at Wal-Mart
Fire at 11:17 a.m. caused by oil catching on fire at the bottom of the oven at Highland Square, Building 204
Fire alert at 2:27 p.m. with a call for investigation of a car wreck at 1207 University Avenue for possibility of fire but the fire department saw it was only dust from the air bag
