Ole Miss Volleyball Hosts South Carolina Tonight
The Ole Miss volleyball team returns to action this evening as they host the South Carolina Gamecocks at the Gillom Sports Center. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Ole Miss’s coach Steven McRoberts squad comes into the game looking for their first conference win on the season. The Rebels are lead on the court Nakeyta Clair who totaled five blocks against the Bulldogs, including two solo. With her two solo blocks, she now has 79 for her career and needs just two to break the school record held by Regina Thomas (80, 2008-11). She also ranks second in the SEC in hitting percentage at .450.
Coach McRoberts discusses the two matches this weekend.
“We have another split weekend. South Carolina comes in on Friday. We are both winless in the SEC right now, so it will be important for us to get a win. And then we go to Texas A&M on Sunday. Another good top 30-40 team in the nation. We have some things we need to figure out. Teams are making us be reliant on our pins, and we need to do our best to put our players in the best position to win.”
South Carolina comes into Friday’s match winless in the SEC as well, dropping 3-0 matches to LSU and No. 24 Kentucky last weekend. The Gamecocks are led by Dessaa Legros, who averages 3.53 kills per set and Darian Dozier, who is hitting .310.
South Carolina leads the all-time series 26-16, but the teams split their two meetings last year. The Gamecocks rallied for a 3-2 win in the SEC opener in Columbia, and the Rebels shut out SC 3-0 in Oxford.
Fans who are planning to make it out to the match are asked to wear red. The match can also be seen on SECN+.
The Rebels return to action on Sunday as they head to College Station to take on the Aggies.
