Mississippi Falls to Number 3 in National Obesity Rankings
The latest report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation places Mississippi third in the nation in the rate of adult obesity, down from number one in past years.
The state’s adult obesity rate is about 35 percent – essentially unchanged from past years – but rates in Arkansas and West Virginia have increased, moving them into first and second place. The lack of increase in Mississippi is a good sign, as is a significant drop in obesity rates among high school students since 2007.
