Chancellor’s House Hotel Buys ‘Brown Building’
The current office location of Brown Insurance Agency at 409 South Lamar has been purchased by an affiliate of Chancellor’s House LLC, the owners of the Chancellor’s House Hotel currently under construction on the northeast corner of South Lamar and University Avenue.
The properties, which connect behind the two buildings, make the Brown Building ideal for the hotel’s spa. It will be transformed into a luxurious spa to match the amenities of the Chancellor’s House Hotel. The Spa will offer a full line of beauty services to include facials and massage, as well as special treatments to enhance a youthful appearance and a branded line of beauty products.
A stay at Chancellor’s House can offer a full day of beauty treatments, relaxation, and spa cuisine. The Spa will be available by reservation to guests, as well as, local citizens and visitors to Oxford and Ole Miss.
Fred Alias, President and COO of the Chancellor’s House Management Group, said, “We want the standards of the spa to match that of another one of my properties in Florida, which was recently recognized by USA Today as having one of the top 10 spa treatments in the world. We will bring decades of hotel spa experience to transform this building into a gem that will respect the historic significance of the building, but also add to the charm and ambiance of the Oxford community. And too, we will spend whatever it takes to give our guests a 5-star spa experience.”
Built in the 1930s, the building was acquired in the late 1950s by R. L. Brown and his wife Sathelle, founders of the Brown Insurance Agency. Ownership of the building and operation of the agency has been in the hands of three successive generations including Tommy and Glenn Brown and the current generation of Tatum and Hugh Brown, grandchildren of the Agency’s founder.
“As Oxford has grown so has our business and we need more office space to satisfy the growth of our agency” said Tatum Brown. “We are delighted that our building will play a significant role in the luxury services to be provided by the Chancellor’s House Hotel”.
