Crosstown Classic to Take Place Between Oxford and Lafayette Tonight
This evening, the annual Crosstown Classic will be renewed as the Oxford Chargers cross Highway 6 to face the Lafayette Commodores.
Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Lafayette High School Football Stadium.
Oxford (1-2) is coming into the game looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses to Starkville and Madison Central over the past two weeks. Thus far on the season, Oxford has faced three Class 6A opponents on the gridiron and has only had one win.
Throughout their high school career, Chargers senior team members have won every match against the Commodores.
This game will be sentimental for the Chargers as it will be the last Crosstown Classic under Coach Johnny Hill, who will retire after this season.
Lafayette welcomes Oxford tonight with a prefect 3-0 record this season after coming off a 20-14 victory over Grenada last Friday.
Throughout the first three games, Oxford and Lafayette both excelled in different statistical categories over one another, with the Chargers having pulled in more passing yards. The Commodores have rushed the ball for more yards, which gives them a total yards-per-game advantage over Oxford.
In this game, the records and how well each team has performed this season will not matter because each team will go after a victory for all four quarters of the game.
