Lafayette County to Host Special Event as Part of Mississippi Day of Giving 2015
Volunteer Oxford is helping to build support for numerous non-profit organizations in Lafayette County as part of the Mississippi Day of Giving.
Mississippi Day of Giving was established by a 2015 Governor’s Proclamation to celebrate the spirit of philanthropy in our state.
This new effort aligns the state’s resources toward a common goal and facilitating collaboration to solve community problems
Through this effort the State has created an online tool for charities in the state to accept donations, organize volunteers, and connect residents with causes they truly believe are making an impact in their community. The Day of Giving is scheduled for October 24.
Volunteer Oxford wants to highlight all the Lafayette County non-profits by hosting the Are You Giving? Rally in the Grove during the Ole Miss – Texas A&M game that day. People can visit the Day of Giving Tent to learn about all the non-profits that serve Lafayette County.
Organizations that sign up to be part of the Day of Giving by October 10th with Volunteer Oxford can take part in the Are You Giving? Rally in the Grove and will be highlighted in the publicity materials. “Mississippi Day of Giving is an enormous step toward gaining support from donors and volunteers for many organizations around the state,” said Sarah Ball, Volunteer Oxford.
During the Day of Giving, donors will be able to donate to causes they care about online at MSDayofGiving.org. Online giving increased by almost nine percent from 2013 to 2014, and the Day of Giving will allow more Mississippians to take advantage of new tools that make supporting their favorite organizations easy and secure.
“Mississippi’s spirit of giving has made the state one of the most charitable in the nation,” said Stacy Andrews, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement for Volunteer Mississippi. “Mississippi Day of Giving will provide a platform for people to find and support organizations all across the state, and we are thrilled about the opportunities this creates for donors and nonprofits.”
