Hunters’ Hollow Prepares for Tax Free Weekend
The Mississippi Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday will be taking place this weekend starting Sept. 4 and ending Sept. 6. Donny Guest, owner of Hunters’ Hollow, said he couldn’t be more excited.
“Last year, that Saturday doubled the best day that we’d ever had, and I’ve been in business for 29 years,” Guest said. “That’s pretty awesome.”
Guest said this year will be a little different with Ole Miss’ first home football game being Sept. 5. Guest said he and the staff aren’t sure what to expect.
“From what we’re hearing from the customers, I don’t think it’s going to matter a whole lot,” Guest said. “This is a big thing. Guns and ammo kind of sell themselves, but when you give people a tax-exempt day, that just makes them buy more.”
Guest said his only worry is with the game beginning at 11 a.m. In times past, this game time has hurt his business because from 11 a.m. to around 3 p.m., he doesn’t have many customers come through.
But with the tax-exempt holiday being such a big event, Guest said, “I don’t think the ball game is going to hurt us that much. That’s what we’re hoping.”
Guest said the staff is trying to fully prepare for the big weekend. They are extending store hours to be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
“It goes through Sunday, but we do not open on Sunday,” Guest said. “That’s the Lord’s day, and if it wasn’t for him, I would be nothing. So, I give him the day on Sunday.”
Guest said there will be specials along with the great savings on Friday and Saturday. There are also fun activities families can participate in at Hunters’ Hollow. Guest said Hunters’ Hollow is a great place for gun training instructions. With the shooting range, customers can practice shooting and learn gun safety.
“We’re about to start some league shooting,” Guest said. “We’re family-oriented. That’s not just for the advances shooters. It’s for the beginning shooters, the average shooters and the advanced shooters.”
Guest said that league shooting will begin September 15 and, great deals can be won by those who participate. For every person that shoots, he or she will receive a ten-dollar gift certificate out of the registration fee. Participants under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian with them.
“It’s really designed to have fun plus you get practice in,” Guest said. “And, it’s very inexpensive.”
Hunters’ Hollow also has more specials to offer customers through their partnership with Allen Samuels of Oxford.
“Right now there is an event going on where if you test drive a Dodge, you get a 25 dollar gift certificate from Hunters’ Hollow,” Guest said. “And if you buy a truck, you get a Benelli shotgun. So, it’s a pretty good deal.”
