Move-in Week 2015 at Ole Miss a Success
Move-in week began on August 15 and continued through August 20 on the Ole Miss campus. Students came from all over the United States in hopes to fully experience Rebel nation.
Some came solely for football and the Grove atmosphere, some for academics and others just to get away from home to begin their college tenure.
Although they were busy unloading and unpacking, freshmen from all walks of life were excited about their first year at Ole Miss.
“I’m going to Ole Miss because it is the best school in the country,” Kyle Cullen of Houston, Texas, said.
Mel Baughn of Grand Rapids, Michigan, agreed with Cullen.
“I’m excited to be at Ole Miss to experience the football down South,” Baughn said.
Although all of them were excited, most students were glad the quick-pace of unloading during move-in week was behind them. But, none could be happier than the student housing staff and volunteers.
Jennifer McClure, assistant director for marketing, said that now that move-in 2015 is behind them, they can begin preparing for move-in 2016.
“A move-in committee, made up of members of our department, meet periodically throughout the year to plan and prepare,” McClure said. “Our facilities staff makes repairs and upgrades to our buildings, our environmental services staff thoroughly cleans our facilities, our operations staff prepares reports and rosters as well as manages move-in logistics and our residential learning staff completes their training and prepares to serve as community builders and resources to our residents.”
Although the committee is made up of several who help in preparing for move-in, McClure said they depend on volunteers from the L-O-U community each year. For move-in 2015, McClure said they were lucky to have over 800 volunteers.
“The first thing that comes to my head when it’s all over is ‘what can we do better next year?,’” McClure said. “We’re always looking for ways to make our move-in even better.”
