Oxford Crime Report: Monday, August 17
James Brown – Grand Larceny
On August 11, Oxford police officers took a report of a house burglary. The victim stated that she was missing several items of jewelry. Through an investigation, the officers found that James D. Brown had been working for a company that had been working at the victim’s house. Brown had pawned several items of jewelry in several pawn shops, including items that were taken from a residence in the county. On August 14, Brown was charged with grand larceny. On August 17, Brown was taken before Judge Mickey Avent for his initial appearance and his bond was set at $5,000.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: four suspicious activities, three disturbances, three noise violations, two welfare concerns, two alarms, two motorist assists, a harassment, a petit larceny, a malicious mischief, a fire department assist, a civil matter, a simple matter, and a 911 hang up call.
Oxford police investigated seven wrecks, issued 19 traffic citations and made four arrests on the following charges:
- Wrong way on an One-Way and DUI
- Possession of a fake ID
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Shoplifting
University police department responded to the following incidents: nine vehicle stops, and a speeding with DUI and a false ID on All American Drive.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls: an alarm test at 1:06 p.m. at Malco Theatre Commonwealth, a wreck with entrapment at 4:36 p.m. at Highway 6 West, and a smoke detector activated at 6:07 p.m. due to a person smoking an e-cigarette at Brown Hall.
