Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, August 14 – 16
Calvin Edlin – Aggravated Domestic Violence
On August 13, 2015, Oxford police officers arrested Calvin Edlin, 55 of Oxford. Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in progress. When they arrived, they found the victim had been hit in the face several times as well as being choked. The victim stated that she passed out during the assault due to being choked. Edlin was arrested on scene and was given a $5,000 bond.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 16 suspicious activities, 12 alarms, 10 welfare concerns, eight disturbances, six noise violations, six careless driving, four lost properties, four malicious mischief, three animal complaints, three improper parking, two motorist assists, two petit larcenies, two harassing phone calls, a 911 hang up call, a civil matter, a fire department assist and an auto-burglary at Cambridge Station.
Oxford police investigated 11 wrecks, issued 98 traffic citations and made 29 arrests on the following charges:

- (3) Failure to comply and public intoxications
- (2) Careless driving with possession of schedule I narcotics
- (2) Minor in possessin of alcohol
- Domestic violence – simple assault
- An improper turn with DUI
- DUI
- Driving on the wrong side of the road with DUI
- Noise violation, possession of marijuana with intent and possession of schedule I narcotics
- Careless driving, suspended driver’s license and DUI
- Disturbing the peace
- Failure to comply and resisting arrests
- No headlights and possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of fake ID
- Warrant served
- Possession of drug paraphernalia and false pretense
- Expired tag, no driver’s license nor car insurance
University police responded to the following incidents: 19 vehicle stops, a sexual battery off-campus, a traffic assist on Rebel Drive, a moving violation per speeding with DUI on campus grounds, an accidental hit and run on Fraternity Row, an accidental hit and run at Martin Hall, an accidental hit and run on Rebel Drive, a burglary and vandalism at Sigma Pi house, and a possession of drug paraphernalia at Brown Hall.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following incidents:

- A report of a car fire at 2:39 p.m. with discovery that the vehicle brakes were only smoking in the parking lot behind Oby’s
- An alarm company testing the system at 4:33 p.m. at Oxford Electric department
- Smoke detectors activated at 8:50 p.m. by a party with two smoke machines at Phi Kappa Psi house
- A burned cookie in the microwave at 2:24 a.m. in Crosby Hall
- A mechancial room detector malfunction at 1:03 p.m. at Indoor Practice Facility
- Two prank discharges of the fire extinguishers at 12:52 a.m. and 12:54 a.m. at Delta Psi house
- A public assist at 8:26 a.m. at Winchester
- A smoke detector malfunction at 11:29 a.m. at Phi Mu house
