Neon Pig Cafe in the Running for ‘Best Burger in America’
Tupelo restaurant Neon Pig Cafe is in the running for “Best Burger in America” by thrillist.com.
Having previously won “Best Burger in Mississippi” by the website, the café’s specialty “smash” burger has beaten out burgers from well-known establishments in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Boston, Massachusettes. It is now up against the famous Americana burger from Causewell’s in San Francisco, California.
The two burgers are going head to head in a online voting competition where fans from all over the world are deciding which one will win out.
“At this point, it’s about more than just a burger,” said Neon Pig Café co-owner Mitch McCamey. “It’s about regional competition. It’s about Mississippi going up against California, and we’ve got to win this.”
Voters have until midnight on August 9, 2015, to cast their votes here for their favorite burger. Voters can cast one voter per day from each electronic device.
McCamey said making it this far in the competition is an honor, and actually winning the competition will be huge for the community. “It wouldn’t just be a win for us, it would be a win for the whole state. This would be Mississippi having the best burger in the country, and something like that would definitely bring positive light to this area,” he said.
The success of the smash burger can be credited to the café’s in-house butcher shop. The Neon Pig Café is the only all-in-one butcher shop and restaurant in Mississippi.
The Tupelo-based restaurant is opening an Oxford location in the former Panini space in the Mid-Town Shopping Center on North Lamar Boulevard.
