Oxford based actress Susan McPhail had quite the adventure working with co-star Nick Nolte while filming “A Walk in the Woods” and now thanks to a special local advance screening of the film, moviegoers have a chance to see it before the national release!

A reception and special screening, scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 at the Malco Oxford Commons Cinema, will benefit the Oxford Film Festival. Tickets are $20 each which includes the 6:00pm reception, 7:00 p.m. screening and Q&A after the film with Susan McPhail.

While the Malco Oxford Commons Cinema, located at 206 Commonwealth Boulevard, is the official sponsor of the event, tickets are only available for purchase via the film festival website: www.oxfordfilmfest.com or here directly.

“A Walk in the Woods” stars Robert Redford and Nick Nolte as two friends who decide to hike the Appalachian Trail – 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine.

In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson (Academy Award winner Robert Redford), instead of retiring to enjoy his loving and beautiful wife (Academy Award winner Emma Thompson), and large and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail – 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek – his long lost and former friend Katz (Academy Award nominee Nick Nolte), a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law – sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before its too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word, “adventure”. Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins.

“We are so excited to bring an advanced screening of ‘A Walk In The Woods’ to Oxford before it’s national release date,” Executive Director Melanie Addington said. “Getting to showcase a local actress like this is tremendous and this type of unique experience is exactly what the Oxford Film Festival is all about. We want to thank Malco Theatres and BroadGreen Pictures for this opportunity.”

Susan McPhail has been acting for about two years. She got involved through her husband, Johnny McPhail, and his love of the craft. Both actors have been huge supporters of the Oxford Film Festival. Susan’s first film, Last Call, which played the 2014 Oxford Film Festival, became a stepping stone creating an addiction to acting that has not abated. Since 2013, Susan has had supporting roles in several feature films including “A Walk in the Woods” and “Mississippi Grind” both set for a Fall 2015 release.

“The Oxford Film Festival is near and dear to my heart, and I want it to be bigger and better each year,” Susan McPhail said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to help make that happen and to remain a part of my favorite community event – OFF!”

The Oxford Film Festival was founded in 2003 to bring exciting, new and unusual films (and the people who create them) to North Mississippi. The annual four-day festival screens short and feature-length films in both showcase and competition settings, including narrative and documentary features and shorts; Mississippi narratives, documentaries and music videos, and narrative, documentary, animated and experimental shorts. The festival is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization. For more information, visit www.oxfordfilmfest.com.
