Ole Miss Volleyball Pre-Season Preview
It’s the final stretch of summer for the Ole Miss Volleyball team as they are only two weeks away from the start of preseason camp.
In 2014, the Rebels started the season a program-best 14-0, sweeping all four regular season tournaments and posted their best final season record (22-10) in seven years.
The team under second-year head coach Steven McRoberts has added seven new faces to the roster and will be returning six out of seven starters from last year.
Two of which senior Nakeyta Clair and junior Melanie Crow have been spending their latter part of summer in New Orleans training with the USA Volleyball Collegiate Team.
Clair became the first all-American since 2011, set a single-season record for kills (366) and is ranked among the top hitters in the SEC as well as the Nation.
Crow also set a single-season record herself for aces (42) and went second for kills in a season (352).
Also returning is junior Aubrey Edie who set the single-season record for assists with 1,322 and sophomore Lexi Thompson who had the most kills (323) in a season by a freshman.
Players return August 10 for preseason and will have their first practice the following day.
The team will kick off their season on August 28 hosting the Magnolia Invitational which includes Northwestern State who made it to the NCAA tournament last year, as well as Oral Roberts and Tennessee State.
The rebels are set to host nine of the first 12 matches at home and seven matches will be aired on television this year.
Be sure to come see the team and meet Coach McRoberts at the annual “Meet the Rebels Day” presented by Cannon Motors on Saturday, August 15 at the Manning Center. The Rebels will be signing autographs.
Doors will open to Rebel Kids’ Club Members (with up to two parents or guardians) at 12:30 p.m. at the east entrance of the facility by the Grill at 1810. The general public may enter at 1 p.m. through the south entrance, which faces the track & field complex. All fans should park in the Coliseum lot or the new parking garage adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
