Charger Football Home Opener Includes Family-Time Tailgate
It’s back to school for Oxford students in just a few days, and the start of Charger football is right around the corner, too.
That makes it a good time for the Oxford School District Foundation (OSDF) to sponsor its first annual “Charger Kickoff Celebration” on August 21 at 5 p.m. on the practice field behind Oxford Middle School. The celebration of athletics and academics will take place right before the home opener against Southaven.
“What a way to begin an exciting season for the Oxford Chargers,” said Ashley Luke, who is coordinating the event for the foundation. “Football is pretty special in our family, and I look forward to cheering Coach Hill and the rest of the young men on.”
The event is free and will feature bouncy houses, face painting, gridiron challenges and game day food for purchase.
“This event is a great way to support the Chargers on the field and in the classroom,” said Camie Bianco, OSDF president.
OSDF will also be recruiting new members for the organization, which raises money to fund innovative teaching ideas submitted by teachers in the Oxford School District. This past year, the foundation paid for fourteen projects, including an indoor/outdoor science classroom, LEGO robot kits and tools to help promote literacy.
“The Charger kickoff is an excellent way to educate our community about OSDF and get everyone excited about the school year,” said Lolita Gregory, OSDF’s membership chair.
Luke says everyone in the community is welcome to join both the organization and the event on Aug. 21.
“I hope to see many friends and family and even those former Chargers at the tailgate celebration. Go Chargers!”
