Ole Miss junior Ben Wolcott and incoming freshman Braden Thornberry have each qualified for the 2015 U.S. Amateur Golf Championships held August 17-23 at the Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
The tournament will be held at the par-71, 7,490-yard Highlands Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club. A field of 312 players will play 36 holes of stroke play on Aug. 17 and 18, after which the field will be cut to the low-64 scorers. Six rounds of match play begin Aug. 19 and the championship concludes with a scheduled 36-hole championship match on Aug. 23.
Thornberry, an incoming freshman from Southaven, Mississippi, fired a two-round total of 137 to finish runner-up in qualifying at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tennessee July 6. Thornberry was also recently named to the 10-man East Squad for the AJGA Wyndham Cup, which competes next week in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Wolcott, who paced the Rebels with a 71.72 stroke average last season, turned in a 36-hole score of 138 to finish third in qualifying at the Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Alabama July 13. This is the second-straight year the Dickson, Tennessee native has qualified for the U.S. Amateur.
