Ole Miss Wins Best Upset at ESPYS
October 4, 2014, was a perfect day, and now ESPYS acknowledged the Ole Miss Rebels’ victory over Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide was the best upset for this past year.
Former Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace and former Rebel cornerback Senquez Golson picked up the ESPYS trophy last night. As any true Rebel fan will remember, Golson intercepted the ball out of the Bama tight end’s hands and landed inbound with the possession. This catch was ruled incomplete until video evidence revealed the truth, and chaos ensued in the stadium and Oxford.
Dissenters can say what they will about the ESPYS Best Upset winner, but the votes came in loud and clear: Ole Miss’ clutch 23 to 17 score over the Crimson Tide, a dominant force in the SEC, was a victory many didn’t think they’d see in a while– let alone the Rebels going 5-0 for the first time since the JFK administration. It could be said that Ole Miss also beat the referees if anyone remembers the face mask that went unpenalized..
The Ole Miss v. Bama rivalry is perhaps the most lopsided in the SEC with the Tide leading at 47 wins over the Rebels. The last time Ole Miss beat Bama in football before 2014 was 11 years ago in 2003.
Here’s hoping the Rebels can keep this momentum up in Tuscaloosa in the fall!
