Oxford Crime Report: Tuesday, July 7
Ken Mathis – Burglary
On June 18, officers of the Oxford police department took a report of a burglary that had just occurred. The victim stated that he was awakened by a noise and upon checking, noticed that someone had broken into his house. During the investigation Mathis was identified as being the suspect inside the home during the break in. On July 7, Kendrick M. Mathis was arrested for Burglary – Breaking and Entering Dwelling House. Mathis was taken for his initial appearance and his bond was set at $2,500.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: four suspicious activities, three petit larcenies, two noise violations, two alarms, a careless driving, an identity theft, a fire department assist, and a welfare concern.
Oxford police investigated four wrecks, wrote 17 traffic citations and made six arrests on the following charges: speeding with DUI; no seat belt with possession of schedule II narcotics with two warrants served; a careless driving with DUI; a shoplifting; a possession of drug paraphernalia; and a speeding with a warrant served.
University police department responded to the following incidents: three vehicle stops and a traffic detail on Chucky Mullins Drive.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls: a unfounded call of a fire at 10:02 a.m. at Old Station 1, a second call about the fire at Old Station 1 at 10:27 a.m. with discovery of a telephone wire and electrical arcing from hitting each other, and a smoke detector activated at 11:37 a.m. by sanding sheet rock at University Office Park on Old Taylor Road.
