Oxford High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC Cadets Attend National Flight Academy
Ten Oxford High School (OHS) Marine Corps Junior ROTC cadets, chosen by the U.S Marine Corps, spent a week aboard the National Flight Academy’s virtual aircraft carrier, Ambition, as part of National Flight Academy.
The students attended National Flight Academy June 14-19, 2015, at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.
When the OHS students were aboard the National Flight Academy’s virtual aircraft carrier, Ambition, they experienced an immersive, aviation-based summer camp adventure that is revolutionizing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education. Students’ learning objectives included important 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and communication.
The Ambition was designed to mimic the interior of an aircraft carrier and is equipped with high-tech communications and navigation equipment on which students perform missions that yield lessons in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Ambition is next-generation innovative play, from the theme park-like sight and sound to premier technology available for students—the experience is unparalleled for all students who attend National Flight Academy.
