Former Rebels Henderson, Rhett, Jones Set to Play in TBT July 10
Former Ole Miss sensation Marshall Henderson will take the court with two other former Rebels in M.J. Rhett and Aaron Jones to play in a five-on-five tournament, where the winner receives $1 million.
On June 8, a field of 97 teams were announced to take part in The Basketball Tournament. The field will include no fewer than 125 players who have played in either the NBA or the NBA D-League, and over 500 with professional experience. Opening rounds begin July 10-12 in Atlanta and Los Angeles, and continue July 17-19 in Chicago and Philadelphia, with the final 17 playing in Chicago again on July 23-25 before advancing on to New York to play for the Championship live on ESPN August 1 and 2. Many of the teams will be playing for a specific charity as well, with a portion of the winnings going to the cause.
Among former Ole Miss standouts on the court the field will also be highlighted by 3X NBA Slam Dunk Champion Nate Robinson, NBA Champions Jason Williams, Brian Scalabrine, and Matt Bonner (GM), in addition to alumni teams from Notre Dame, Syracuse, Wisconsin and UVA.
This year’s tournament has expanded to four regions — Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and a television deal with ESPN.
Henderson’s team name is called TMD. His team will start out in the south region of this tournament in Atlanta at the Clayton State’s Athletics and Fitness Center July 10-12.
Last season, Notre Dame won the TBT and received $500,000, but this year, the cash prize has doubled for taking home the championship.
Teams gain entry into the TBT through fan votes Fans can vote for their favorite team throughout and if there team wins the fans also win prizes. If the team a fan selected that fan can also share in the prizes.
