Oxford Crime Report: Thursday, June 18

The Oxford Police Department encourages everyone to be aware of their surrounding’s at all times and if at any time you feel uncomfortable about a situation to simply drive away and alert authorities of the suspicious behavior.

On Thursday, June 18, 2015, at approximately 9:11 p.m., police officers and investigators were investigating a reported Attempted Armed Robbery at a local Bank ATM Machine. The victim stated that he drove up to the ATM to withdraw money when an unknown male approached the rear of his vehicle holding what appeared to be a hunting knife and demanded money several times during their encounter. The victim stated he responded to the subject that he had no money and quickly entered his vehicle and drove away from the area and called police.

Christopher Powell – Motor Vehicle Theft

On Thursday June 18, 2015, investigators with the Oxford police department arrested Christopher Powell, 21 years old of Oxford, in connection with a stolen vehicle from University Trails Apartments located off of Whirlpool Drive on June 11, 2015. Authorities in Panola County apprehended Powell after locating the vehicle. After attempting a vehicle stop, the authorities in Panola County had to pursue Powell who then wrecked the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was brought back to Lafayette County where he faced a judge on the charge of motor vehicle theft. Powell was out on a felony bond but the judge revoked his bond and remanded him to the Lafayette County Detention Center.

Wendy Michelle Clark-Austin – Three Counts of Uttering Forgery and Identity Theft

On Wednesday, June 10,2015, investigators with the Oxford police department arrested Wendy Michelle Clark-Austin, 36 years old of Memphis, Tennessee, on three counts of Uttering Forgery and three counts of Identity Theft. Austin’s bond was set at $75,000.

Oxford police responded to the following incidents: seven alarms, three suspicious activities, two suspicious persons, two welfare concerns, two 911 calls, two trespassing, two fire department assists, an open door, a disturbance, a shoplifting, a malicious mischief, an improper parking, a harassing phone call, a petit larceny, a simple assault, an animal complaint, and an auto burglary at 300 Ward Cove.

Oxford police investigated seven wrecks, issued 12 tickets and made six arrests on the following charges: (2) shoplifting; (2) public drunks; a speeding with no car insurance and a suspended driver’s license; and a careless driving with no car insurance but with a DUI.

University police responded to the following incidents: seven vehicle stops and a drug paraphernalia possession with a warrant served at Campus Walk Apartments.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:a cancelled call at 3:54 p.m. to the Rooster’s on June 17, a water flow alarm malfunction at 4:43 p.m. and 6:18 p.m. at Chi Omega house on June 17, a report of a fire hydrant hit by the wreck but no damage was caused at 8:00 a.m. at Price Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, a smoke detector malfunction at 8:22 a.m. in the gym at Oxford Intermediate School, a smoke detector activated at 6:42 p.m. by sanding sheet rock at Kappa Alpha Order house, a smoke detector malfunction at 8:41 p.m. in rooms 69 and 70 at Oxford Health & Rehabilitation, and a general fire alarm malfunction at 3:38 a.m. this morning at 167 Eagle Pointe Loop.
