Gamble Earns Capital One Academic All-America Honors
Ole Miss junior golfer Forrest Gamble was named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men’s At-Large Team Thursday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The reigning SEC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Gamble holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in physics with a minor in mathematics and plans to attend medical school after graduation. He has been named to the Chancellor’s and SEC Academic Honor Rolls and is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Omnicron Delta Kappa honor societies. Gamble was inducted into the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges and participated in the Chancellor’s Leadership class.
Gamble, a Birmingham, Alabama native, was selected to the second team Academic All-America team after earning first team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors last month. The at-large teams for the Capital One Academic All-America program include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo for men and women, as well as bowling, crew and field hockey for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.
The junior posted his best tournament of the season at the SEC Championships where he fired a 71-66-71–208 to finish in a tie for 11th at Sea Island, Georgia. He finished the season third on the team with a 73.8 stroke average and posted two top-25 finishes.
