Rebel Netter Nik Scholtz Earns ITA Southern Senior Player of the Year
In 2012, Ole Miss men’s tennis player Nik Scholtz was named the ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year. Scholtz came full circle Tuesday, as he was named the ITA Southern Region Senior Player of the Year.
The Caledon, South Africa native becomes the third Rebel player to be named ITA Regional Senior Player of the Year, joining All-Americans Alex Hartman and Jonas Lutjen.
A three-time All-American, Scholtz helped lead the Rebels to their 22nd consecutive NCAA appearance and a host site for the first and second rounds. He became the first player in program history to be named All-SEC first team all four years. Scholtz will compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships next week in Waco, Texas and is seeking to become the first four-time All-American in program history.
“Nik has been an outstanding representative of college tennis and Ole Miss,” head coach Toby Hansson said. “Not only will he leave here as one of the top players in the history of our program, but he earned his degree as well. I know he is looking forward to closing out his career on a memorable note next week in Waco.”
Scholtz is among 12 regional winners eligible for the ITA National Senior of the Year Award, which will be announced at the NCAA Championships.
