Northwest to Offer Free Trumpet Clinic for Middle, High School Students
Northwest Mississippi Community College will host “Days of Trumpeting,” a free trumpet clinic for middle school and high school students from Wednesday, May 27 through Friday, May 29 at the Fine Arts Building on the Senatobia campus.
The clinic will give area trumpet students the opportunity to learn more about trumpet playing and musicianship and also give them a chance to meet other trumpet players from around Mississippi.
“We want to help students learn more about their instrument, improve their playing abilities and get tips from local trumpet players making it in the real world as musicians and teachers,” Justin Robinson, assistant director of Bands said.
Robinson is one of the clinicians for Days of Trumpeting. In addition, other clinicians are Ben Bullock, band director, Lewisburg High School; James Crocker, band director, Southaven High School; Shelby King, band director, Horn Lake High School and Daniel Roebuck, graduate student, University of Mississippi.
Registration for the event will take place on Wednesday, May 27 from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Clinic times are Wednesday, May 27, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, May 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, May 29, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Students must either bring sack lunches, walk or drive to a restaurant, or eat in the Northwest Cafeteria (cash only) each day.
Friday evening will feature an open concert from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. For the final concert, students/performers should wear nice dress clothes for the concert. Dinner will be provided before the concert.
