Dentist Dr. Rebecca Edwards Puts Smiles on Children’s Faces

Dr. Rebecca Edwards is on a mission to change the attitudes of people who might be a little apprehensive about dental care.

“Everybody is a kid when it comes to dentistry, and we all come to the office a little afraid. I want to change that and make both children and adults comfortable,” said Edwards, who recently rejoined A Smile 4 U, located the Galleria Shopping Center on West Jackson Avenue in Oxford.

With 20 years of dental experience and the friendly and inviting atmosphere at A Smile 4 U, Edwards just might change some attitudes. The A Smile 4 U facility is much different from most with an open, multi-chair arrangement with bright colors and murals on the walls.

“We want to create a warm and friendly atmosphere,” she said, as a youngster seemed eager to climb into her chair. Edwards and her husband, Pat, are from Jonesboro, Arkansas, where he continues to work in the Arkansas State University Development and Scholarship program. They are friends with Coach Hugh Freeze who also is from ASU.

“We have two children, a daughter who graduated this year and who was an Ole Miss Rebelette and we have a son who is a freshman this year. So it is ‘Go Rebels!’ at our house,” she said.

“I fell in love with Oxford when our daughter came to Ole Miss, and I love being a part of A Smile 4 U,” she said.

Dr. John Russell III, the Orthodontist at A Smile 4 You, says group strives to be involved in the community when opportunities arrive.

The staff visits elementary schools to educate kids on good dental hygiene and provides dental exams and patient education at Headstart schools in north Mississippi. The dentists also participate in back-to-school health fairs and other public service events.

Dr. Edwards offers parents and children recommendations for developing healthy and clean teeth at home.

“Eat a good diet, enjoy raw vegetables during the day as chewing these help clean your teeth, don’t smoke and maybe hold off on the coffee,” she said. “For parents with children, have them brush in the morning and when you put them to bed at night.”

A Smile 4 U has an appealing slogan, “Pleasure In Dentistry And Orthodontics,” and if Dr. Edwards has her way, visiting the clinic will be a fun and positive experience.
