St. John’s Drawdown: New Chairman, Same Fun
Do you have your ticket for the St. John’s Drawdown on May 1? Those with a ticket can win $10,000, either all for one person or split four way.
St. John’s Drawdown began when the church was renovated five years ago. Now onto its fifth year Campbell Helveston is carrying the torch for Mark Hodges, who has organized the past St. John’s Drawdowns.
“My wife and I moved here in August, and it seemed like a good way to get involved in the community,” said Helveston, senior vice president of First National Bank in Oxford. Here in the video below he tells what this year’s drawdown will be like.
The drawdown is a reverse raffle. Tickets will be drawn randomly throughout the night and the last ticket(s) wins $10,000. However once there are five tickets left the ticket holders can decide to split the profits, a decision that will be continually made until a consensus is reached or the last ticket is drawn.
Clayton Stevens Trust Fund, managed by St. John’s, benefits from this fundraiser. The fund is used to help various charities in Lafayette County such as Interfaith Compassion Ministries, Save-A-Life and Love Packs, Doors of Hope and much more.
“Since all proceeds go towards the Clayton Stevens Trust, every dime that is raised goes to the benefit of the residents of Lafayette County,” said Helveston.
The tickets are $125 each, and $150 with insurance. Tickets with insurance will go back into the pot if among the first 100 pulled. Sponsor tables can be purchased at $1,000 but four insured tickets will be supplied. One ticket admits two people.
The KrakerJacks will be playing that night, per popular demand Helveston said. For nearly 35 years the Krackerjacks Band has entertained all over the mid-South and performed with the likes of B.B. king, The Coasters and The Marshall Tucker Band to name a few.
Helveston said, “There will be a silent auction with great items for people to bid such as a Hugh Freeze autographed piece of the goal post from the Alabama game, several pieces of art from local artists and many other great items.”
There will also be the Wine Pull. At $10 per pull one can blindly select a bottle of wine that could be worth at least $10 or $75 at most. The night sounds guaranteed to be full of pleasant surprises.
