OM Men’s Golf Team Ready to Tee Off at SEC Championships
The Ole Miss men’s golf team will travel to St. Simmons Island, Georgia this weekend to compete in the SEC Championships at the Sea Island Golf Club.
The 7,055 yard, par-70 course has hosted the SEC Championships every year since 2001. The three-round event, which begins Friday and runs through Sunday, features some of the premier teams in the nation as nine of the league’s teams are ranked in the top 40, including No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Auburn, No. 8 South Carolina and No. 9 LSU. Ole Miss is ranked No. 52 in the nation heading into the championships and has itself in position for the Rebels’ first NCAA Championships appearance since 2011.
“We are extremely excited to get back into tournament competition,” said Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy. “We have a great opportunity to win our last event. I expect us to pick up where we left off and make a run at an SEC title. I really believe that we are playing our best golf of the year and peaking at the right time.”
The Rebels, who are coming off a top-three finish at the Old Waverly Invitational, will set a lineup of senior Blake Morris, sophomore Ben Wolcott, sophomore Noah West, freshman Josh Seiple and junior Forrest Gamble. Wolcott leads the Rebels with a 71.50 stroke average heading into the SEC Championships, while Morris has posted a team best two top-five finishes, including a runner-up finish at the Old Waverly Invitational last week.
