Ole Miss Pi Phis, Betas Team Up for Easter Egg Hunt at Boys and Girls Club
Pi Beta Phi and Beta Theta Pi joined together April 1 to host an Easter egg hunt for the kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Oxford.
“The Boys and Girls Club welcomed Beta and Pi Phi very warmly. The kids who participated in the hunt had a blast, as well as the Greek members who volunteered!” Pi Phi philanthropy chair Emily Reynolds said. “At the end of the event, the kids knew there were college students in the community who genuinely wanted to positively impact the lives of others.”
This is the second year that this event has taken place, and each year the event gets better than the last.
“Aspen Hulme, Beta’s philanthropy chair, and I met throughout the semester to collaborate on ideas and logistics of the event. Aspen did the majority of the planning and supplied the materials, I mainly promoted the event within Pi Phi,” Reynolds explained.
Philanthropy is a huge aspect of Greek organizations and Oxford is overflowing with philanthropic opportunities.
Reynolds described what philanthropy means to her.
“It’s so easy to feel as though you’re one of many, especially at larger schools like Ole Miss. Students can quickly feel as though they are one of many others and then feel as if they can’t make a difference. When anyone volunteers in their community, they can directly see the impact that they can have. Helping the community and leaving it better makes philanthropy worthwhile!”
