The news of a white police officer being charged with murder in North Charleston, South Carolina, made its way to social media Tuesday, and one Ole Miss player has a devastating connection to the case.
Ole Miss defensive lineman Fadol Browl tweeted Tuesday night:
The tweet has since been deleted. The junior is from Charleston, South Carolina, where Officer Michael T. Slager reportedly “feared for his life” and shot Scott in the back eight times as he fled down a sidewalk after the officer said he took took Slager’s stun gun from him at a traffic stop. This incident comes after many similar situations across the country, such as New York, Cleveland, and Ferguson, Missouri.
“Walter Scott was in a relationship with the mother of Fadol’s longtime girlfriend and served as a father figure to Fadol for a number of years,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “Obviously this is a very emotional and difficult time for all parties involved, and our thoughts are with Fadol and his loved ones after this tragic event.”
