Rebs Host Vols for SEC Weekend Series at Swayze
The Ole Miss baseball team returns home to the diamond of Swayze Field this weekend to host the Tennessee Volunteers in a three-game conference series.
Ole Miss picked up its 15th victory of the year on Tuesday night as they defeated Memphis 7-5 at AutoZone Park. In the victory the Rebels received key hits from Colby Bortles, J.B. Woodman and Will Golsan who each recorded three hits which tied their career highs in a single game.
Ole Miss had clutch at-bats by several Rebels to lift the team past Memphis. The Rebels went 6-for-17 at the dish with runners on base, good for a .353 clip. With two outs, Ole Miss went 7-for-15 (.467) throughout the game.
Tennessee is coming into Oxford with a 12-13 mark on the season and a 2-7 record inside of conference play. The Volunteers picked up a 7-4 victory over Arkansas State last time out on the diamond.
The Vols are led by junior Christian Stewart in home runs with eight on the year. He blasted two out on Wednesday against the Red Wolves. Stewart is now tied for the conference lead in the long ball category.
His teammate sophomore Nick Stenzel paces the Volunteers with a .361 batting average, including team highs in doubles (7) and triples (4) as the leadoff hitter.
The hurlers for this weekend series look like this as the Vols will send sophomore Kyle Serrano (Friday), senior Bret Marks (Saturday) and junior Drake Owenby to the mound on Sunday. While coach Mike Bianco will give the ball to Christian Trent and Brady Bramlett on Friday and Saturday respectively while Sundays pitcher has not been decided on yet.
Game times for this Easter weekend at Swayze are as follows 6:30 p.m. tonight, 4:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 on Sunday.
