Summer is fast approaching with one issue weighing on many people’s minds, “Will I be able to fit into last year’s bikinis or swim trunks?” With the availability of plentiful organic fruits and vegetables, now is the best time to get your detox on.

To detox is to “abstain from or rid the body of toxic or unhealthy substances”. It’s a natural process that leaves you feeling healthy and energized. After detoxing, many people have said they not only feel lighter physically, but they feel good mentally as well. Skin is clearer, inches have shed and minds and bodies feel more energized.

One key element to focus on are foods that energize while cleansing the liver, your body’s built-in detoxification system, fiber to keep your digestive system on tract, and healthy liquid (juices) to flush harmful substances out.

When going shopping this week, focus on filling your shopping cart with organic fruits and vegetables such as:

IMG_28561. Lemons: drinking fresh lemon water every morning has it perks. Lemons hold laxative and diuretic properties that help in flushing waste out of your body. Another major benefit of drinking lemon water is that it paves the way to weight loss. They also help prevent the growth and multiplication of pathogenic that causes infections and diseases.

IMG_28572. Green leafy vegetables: They are full of vitamins, minerals and disease-fighting phytochemicals. Leafy greens are rich in fiber which keeps you feeling full longer. The fibers in green leafy veggies can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure, which also aids in quicker weight loss. A few greens to add to your grocery list: kale, collards, arugula, lettuce, spinach, radicchio, and turnip greens just to list a few.

IMG_28583. Fruits: Fruits are a key ingredient in an detoxing plan. They are full of Vitamin C, nutritious fluids and an endless supply of antioxidants. Two main fruits to keep in mind when making your grocery list are watermelon and apples. Watermelon has a high water content that keeps you feeling full longer and helps flush out dietary impurities from your body. Apples help detoxify the bloodstream which aids in supporting the lymphatic system.

To get your digestive order, blood pressure and weight under control, try a summer detox and feel better, sooner. Start your day off feeling more energized and better about yourself.
