College Democrats and College Republicans to Debate Tonight
The Sally McConnell-Barksdale Honors College will host a debate at the Overby Center in Room 147 downstairs at 6 p.m. tonight.
The debate is between College Democrats and College Republicans. Dr. John Winkle III, professor emeritus of political science at University of Mississippi, will moderate the debate.
Dr. Winkle said, “I am looking forward to an informed discussion of three important domestic policy issues facing the nation and the state of Mississippi.”
The panelists from each party will discuss environmental, social and economic and educational issues United States and Mississippi face today.
Eleanor Anthony, one of editors of the Honors College’s Populi magazine and a fellow of the Honors College Student Union (HCSU), said, “We hope this will be an opportunity for a productive dialogue about topics that are important to us all, and we welcome everyone from the Oxford and UM community to attend! The HCSU hopes this will be the first of many debates to come. ”
The Honors College Student Union extends its thanks to Dr. Winkle, their panelists, Kathryn James, John Brahan, Joseph Latham, Mr. Bill Rose, Ms. Mykki Newton, Mrs. Penny Leeton and Dean Douglas Sullivan-Gonzalez for their help in bringing the event to fruition.
