Oxford Outdoor Flea Market Launches April 4
This spring, Oxford will have its own outdoor flea market, complete with arts, crafts, vintage items and antiques every first Saturday of the month beginning April 4.
“My husband Benjy and I got the idea for Oxford Flea after traveling around to other cities looking for unique items in thrift shops and flea markets,” says co-owner Liz Barrett Foster, also the face behind EatingOxford.com. “We thought, ‘Why doesn’t Oxford have something like this?’ So we decided to start one ourselves.”
Benjy and Liz Foster are both avid shoppers, collectors and researchers, and Benjy has been attending antique auctions since he was young. They’re excited to bring an outdoor market to Oxford that will highlight the talents and interests of so many people in Oxford and surrounding areas.
“I’m overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve received so far,” Liz said. “A regular outdoor market is something the residents of Oxford have clearly been wanting.”
HottyToddy.com has teamed up with Oxford Flea to supply a venue for the monthly market, located in HottyToddy.com’s back parking lot at 307 West Jackson Avenue (also accessible by foot via the Oxford Depot Walking Trail by the bridge on Jackson Avenue). The market on Saturday, April 4 will begin at 8 a.m. and run until around 2 p.m., possibly later if there’s a large crowd.
Vendors who sign up online or info@oxfordflea.com pay $40 for a space and are responsible for bringing a table, chair and tent, if needed (vendors who contact Oxford Flea before end of day Monday, March 16, get 50 percent off opening day).
Free booth space is available to Oxford-based charities raising money for their causes. Contact Liz or Benjy at info@oxfordflea.com for more information or visit their Facebook page.
