Ole Miss Women’s Golf Heads West For Clover Cup
A week after competing on the east coast in Miami’s Hurricane Invitational, the Ole Miss women’s golf team is heading west for the Notre Dame Clover Cup at Longbow Country Club in Mesa, Arizona. A course at which the Ole Miss finished in the top five in last season, this is familiar ground for the veteran players.
Abby Newton (Katy, Texas.) finished the 2014 Clover Cup tied for 7th while Stani Schiavone (Bangor, Pa.) finished tied for 12th. As a team, Ole Miss posted an 896 for the tournament including a strong 294 on the final day, which was one of the best rounds of the tournament.
“This spring break tournament we are having a blast,” said head coach Michele Drinkard. “Former Rebel Bradley Sowell of the Arizona Cardinals played with us in a casual round and then we went for a sunset horseback ride through the dessert. Alison and Maria had never been on a horse so it was fun to watch their experience. Now it’s time to get down to business and focus in and build on our momentum we had during the third round in Miami.”
The Rebels are coming off a trip to Miami where they finished 16th, but saw positive improvements each day backed by Abby Newton and Alison Hovatter (Merdianville, Ala.).
After their trip to Arizona, the team will head to Hoover, Alabama for the Samford Intercollegiate before returning home for the 2015 Rebel Intercollegiate April 3-5.
