Ole Miss Baseball Travels to Louisville for Two-Game Series

The Ole Miss baseball team looks to put Sunday’s loss to Stetson behind them as they have a quick turn around to face the No. 8 Louisville Cardinals. This will be the first of five-straight games against Top 10 opponents for the Rebels.

Ole Miss (8-6) took the series form the Stetson Hatters over the weekend by winning a double header 8-3 and 7-3 Saturday afternoon. Freshman Kyle Watson has embraced his role in the leadoff position, hitting at a .387 average with 12 hits, 5 doubles and 10 runs scored also tallied up a total of 8 RBIs.

Stetson was able to get the bats going Sunday to produce 16 runs in three innings at the plate to salvage a game against the Rebels by the score of 16-4.

Louisville (10-5) welcomes Ole Miss in for a two-game mid-week series after taking a series from Miami over the weekend.

The Cardinals are led at the plate by freshman pitcher/first baseman Brendan McKay with a .464 clip on 13 hits and one double and scoring 9 runs. McKay has driven in a total of five RBI’s on the season.

Senior Sutton Whiting is right behind him hitting .423 on the season with 22 hits and 2 doubles on the season while scoring 8 runs. He has also tailed a total of seven RBI.

Sophomore southpaw Drew Harrington is a threat out of the bullpen with a 0.57 ERA and two saves over six appearances.

Coach Dan McDonald’s club is holding their opponents only to a .225 average through 15 games on the season. Teams that face the Cardinals on the year have only scored 65 runs where Louisville has put up 85 runs to start the season.

Coach Mike Bianco announced Evan Anderson will get the start against Louisville this afternoon, while tomorrow’s hurler has still not been decided. The Cardinals have not announced their starters for this mid-week clash.

This two game series will take place at 4 p.m CST Tuesday and 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Fans can watch the game on olemisssports.com and listen to the game on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
