Haig Leads Rebels at GARC Championships
The Great American Rifle Conference Championships concluded last Sunday, with the Rebels firing a 2331 in the air rifle to round out a 4613 aggregate, good for fifth overall.
After posting a career high in the smallbore on Saturday, freshman Jessica Haig again posted the best score for the Rebels with a 590 in air rifle. Haig finished with the 11th best combined score.
Sophomore Sarah Emery contributed a career-best Alison Weisz 584 in air rifle to help the Rebels to the fifth-place overall finish.
“Finishing the season on a high note with the team feels great,” head coach Valerie Boothe said. “Sarah Emery really came through for us today in air rifle. Now we focus on Ali’s (Alison Weisz) competition at the NCAAs and all of our Junior Olympic Qualifiers.”
West Virginia claimed both the air rifle and the overall conference championships with a 2386 in air rifle and a 4709 combined score. West Virginia’s Garret Spurgeon claimed the individual air rifle while his fellow Mountaineer Maren Prediger fired the best combined total.
Weisz will participate in the NCAA Rifle Championships in smallbore on March 13-14 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
