University of Mississippi Student Dies In Sledding Accident Wednesday
A University of Mississippi student was in a reported sledding accident Wednesday evening and was pronounced deceased at the Baptist Memorial Hospital shortly after.
The Oxford Police Department received an emergency call at 5:30 p.m. to assist the emergency medical service staff respond to a reported sledding accident at the Highland Square complex located off the Molly Barr Road.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, the Oxford Police Department responded to a call to assist EMS in reference to a reported sledding accident at Highland Square apartment complex located off Molly Barr Road.
Upon arrival, both OPD and EMS learned that a male in his early 20s was injured in a lone accident after he sledded down a hillside and struck a street sign. WMC Action News 5 reported that the deceased was an University of Mississippi student. More information can be found on its website.
Oxford police assisted EMS in transporting the man to the Baptist Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. Since publication, Oxford police have identified the late student as Fenton Kottkamp, a native of Louisville, Kentucky. Kottkamp was sledding with his friends but was the only one involved in the accident.
Oxford police continues to investigate the unfortunate accident and will notify the public and media with additional information.
