Big Weekend Ahead for Ole Miss Track & Field

Two of the nation’s most competitive college track & field meets this weekend are the Tyson Invitational (Fayetteville, Ark.) and Husky Classic (Seattle, Wash.), and Ole Miss will have representatives at both sites Friday and Saturday.

The Ole Miss men and women are looking forward to a strong showing this weekend in the final tune-ups before the Feb. 27-28 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships.

“We’re excited for the weekend,” head coach Brian O’Neal said. “This is our last weekend of competition in preparation for SEC Championships. We’re prepared and rested and expecting to have a great weekend of performances.”

Among the men’s teams slated to compete at the Tyson Invitational are No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Penn State, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 8 Georgia, No. 9 Texas, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 Texas Tech, No. 15 Alabama, No. 16 Baylor, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Akron, No. 21 Florida State, No. 22 Houston and other SEC schools Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina.

Among the women’s teams attending the Tyson Invitational are No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Kentucky, No. 10 Kansas State, No. 12 Texas Tech, No. 13 Florida State, No. 14 Akron, No. 15 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Missouri, No. 22 Clemson and other SEC schools Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

An incredible 21 athletes who have won a combined 32 individual national titles will be among the competitors in Fayetteville this weekend.

The Husky Classic also features many of the nation’s top teams and will be a showcase for some of the top middle- and long-distance races of the year.

Both meets will run Friday and Saturday.

The Tyson Invitational will be streamed live on SEC Network+ on Saturday.

“Every weekend the competition gets more and more intense, and this weekend is no exception,” O’Neal said. “Our group out in Washington will face some of the top distance competition in the NCAA, and the young men and women at Tyson will face the best in sprints, jumps, hurdles and relays. Our group is excited to compete for the Red and Blue. Our mission is to make sure Rebel Nation is proud of us and our performance.”

Ole Miss boasts some of the top athletes in the SEC and the nation on both the men’s and women’s sides this indoor season.

Rebel men who rank among the nation’s top 40 include Jalen Miller in the 60 meters (3rd, 6.55) and 200 meters (37th, 21.26), Dameon Morgan in the 800 meters (37th, 1:49.82), Robert Domanic in the mile (19th, 4:00.62), Craig Engels in the mile (26th, 4:01.29), Daniel Bulmer in the mile (29th, 4:01.49), Robert Semien in the 60-meter hurdles (31st, 7.90), the distance medley relay (16th, 9:40.51), Adam Aguirre in the high jump (33rd, 7-0.25) and Phillip Young in the long jump (19th, 24-9) and triple jump (8th, 52-8). Those that rank top five in the SEC include Miller in the 60 (1st), Domanic in the mile (2nd), Engels in the mile (4th), the DMR (4th), Aguirre in the high jump (3rd) and Young in the long jump (5th) and triple jump (3rd).

Rebel women who rank among the nation’s top 40 include Brooke Feldmeier in the 800 (6th, 2:05.27), Kierra White in the long jump (33rd, 19-9.5) and Fabia McDonald in the pentathlon (16th, 4,057). Feldmeier, a freshman from Olympia, Washington, who will return to her home state this weekend, ranks second among SEC athletes in the 800.
