Taking Care of Your Heart: A Cooking Class
With Valentine’s Day coming closer this weekend it’s no surprise that February is the National Heart Month. Good Food for Oxford Schools will host a cooking class in the Oxford Middle School cafeteria at 6 p.m. this Thursday.
The health program is an initiative geared to improve cafeteria menus and teach students and their parents on healthy eating. GFOS has been doing this for two years now from bringing local farm produce to the cafeterias to helping students grow their own food.
This week Dr. Kathy Knight from the University of Mississippi’s nutrition and hospitality management program will teach the hour-long class on making heart healthy recipes for the National Heart Month. The menu will be crunch broccoli salad, sauteed root vegetables and pan crusted tilapia with a strawberry meringue dessert.
The cost of the class is $5 per person. There are currently 22 tickets available.
