Local Oxford Students Sign College Football Scholarships
Oxford was bustling all Wednesday with the excitement of National Signing Day for the University of Mississippi, but just a stone’s throw away at Oxford High School, two seniors and two Oxford alumni took part in the festivities.
McCollin, a defensive back/wide receiver for the Oxford Chargers, committed to Northwest Mississippi Community College as a cornerback. McGhee committed to the University of North Alabama as a middle linebacker, the same position he played for the Oxford Chargers.
“We have two more seniors—J.R. Anderson and D.K. Hutchins—looking to sign who are committed to playing football on the college level, but didn’t participate in this year’s National Signing Day,” athletic director and head football coach Johnny Hill said. “We didn’t have as many seniors sign this year, but we did have four seniors who will sign somewhere to play college football and receive a free education, and I’m always excited about that for them.”
Itawamba Community College defensive end Xavier Pegues signed with West Virginia and Itawamba offensive lineman Joel Forrester committed to Tennessee Tech.
Hill celebrated with his players during his final National Signing Day at OHS before his retirement this December. Hill said he will coach his final football season this fall and expects to be around for Signing Day in 2016.
