Eating Oxford
South Depot Gives Oxford Restaurant Week Some Spice
Instead of a food fight, this week is more of a fight for food. Oxford Restaurant week is in full swing as everyone in the Oxford area is asked to grab some grub for a good cause.
Throughout our college town, restaurants are participating in this celebration of food. From fast food to fancy, from baristas to bar, you can satisfy any cravings at the wide variety of particpating establishments. If you dine at any of the restaurants, you will have the opportunity to vote for one of the local charities. At the end of the week whichever charity has raised the most votes, that charity will receive a $5,000 check.
One of the participating restaurants is South Depot Taco Shop located on Van Buren Avenue on the Square. The famed taco shop will be celebrating Oxford Restaurant Week by offering free chips and salsa with the purchase of an entree and drink as long as customers mention Oxford Restaurant Week.
Manager Charles Sparn said, ”I would tell customers to go and vote, because those charities do a lot for this community.” When asked to describe South Depot Sparn said, “I would describe South Depot as lively. There is a lot going on most of the time, it is a very good environment. When people ask me ‘What is South Depot?’ I tell them this: it is like a Mexican Subway. You go through the line and you pick and choose whatever you want.”
This is the taco shop’s second year participating in Oxford Restaurant week. Take the time to bring friends and family out for a great meal for an even better cause. And while you are enjoying the delicious food, take a picture of your meal and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #sharemyplate to support Sysco’s No Kid Hungry campaign.
Oxford Restaurant Week charities include the Oxford Food Pantry, More than a Meal, Meals on Wheels, Love Packs, and Good Food for Oxford Schools. Oxford Restaurant week started Sunday Jan. 25 and ends this Saturday.
